Please join us on October 21, at 10:30 am to learn about Renewing the Blue River presented by Scott Schulte, the founding President of the Heartland Conservation Alliance. With more than 30 years of professional, academic, and not-for-profit experience revitalizing natural and human communities, Scott has led watershed assessments and planned, designed, implemented, and developed policies promoting multi-benefit, nature-based solutions for water resources, community, and climate resilience. He currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate studies at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park.
This collaborative initiative aims to restore up to 240 acres of riparian habitat, enhance green infrastructure along key segments of the Blue River, and expand the urban tree canopy in surrounding neighborhoods—ultimately building a healthier, more resilient watershed for Kansas City.
Through a combination of expert and community-led riparian restoration, native landscaping, wetland restoration, and the advancement of modern stormwater policies, the project improves water quality, reduces flood risk, and strengthens local capacity for green infrastructure planning and implementation.
All of our education programs start at 10:30 am, are approximately one hour long, and are free and open to the public. You can attend the live presentation in the North room of the Dreher 4-H Family Building on the Douglas County fairgrounds, or attend online by registering before the presentation here.
