Please join us on September 19, at 10:30 am to learn about Natural Treasures: Seedhead Shadowboxes and Nature Collages presented by Lisa Nelick who is a retired nurse turned artist and herbalist. Her focus is on what can be found in the back yard or the back 40. As a land steward for over 35 years in Douglas County, collecting found objects like feathers, cones, seedheads, flowers, bark, leaves, fungus, and sticks, she uses these things to make small dioramas and shadowboxes, which she will often gift or sell. Foraging is also a fun hobby of hers, as she feels that wild foods offer diversity and nutritional boosts to our ordinary diets.
Artist Lisa Nelick will present her collection of products of her love for nature and the great outdoors. Lisa has been rewilding a traditionally farmed 80 acres that her family named The Prairie Harbor. Learning to identify native plants and collect their seeds to diversify her land, Lisa began making seed head shadow boxes for educational purposes. She also dabbles in fantasy-based nature collages and in floral photography. She will show the steps she uses to make these and encourage everyone to make their own.
All of our education programs start at 10:30 am, are approximately one hour long, and are free and open to the public. You can attend the live presentation in the North room of the Dreher 4-H Family Building on the Douglas County fairgrounds, or attend online by registering before the presentation here.
